Howon Lee worked for 2 years in Seoul, in a hostel in Hongdae area.
There was no guesthouse in Daegu at the time and he wondered why.
He thought Daegu had enough to offer to get people interested in traveling there.
So in the summer of 2011, he opened Danim Backpackers. The guesthouse is right next to the Bongsan Cultural Center, a traditional area with an array of galleries.
It is a short walk to the subway station, and the heart of downtown. A highlight at his guesthouse happened a year ago during the 2011 IAAF World Championships in Athletics
that took place in Daegu.
The mayor from Tasmania stayed in his hostel, along with other fans, reporters, researchers.
People from around the world were in Daegu for about a month. Mr. Lee catered his hostel to his international guests,
holding parties for them and barbeques for them to enjoy.
