Anapji Pond

One of the most famous sites that can get you up close and personal with the ancient views of the Shilla Dynasty, is Anapji Pond. This artificial, yet beautiful pond was built as part of the palace complex of the former dynasty in 674 AD and is located just northeast of where the royal palace grounds once stood. According to the historical records of the Three Kingdoms of Korea (Goguryeo, Baekje and Shilla), the pond was crafted using the construction techniques from Goguryeo Dynasty and Baekje’s sense of beauty. A particularly appealing time to visit is in the evening, when the lights and shadows add mystique to the pond and Korean architecture.
