Red Hot Daegu

If the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, “Red Hot Daegu” is sure to have pulses racing at this year’s IMEX, the MICE industry’s premier show for planners looking to book and organize meetings, events and incentive travel programs.

IMEX 2014 is set to take place Tuesday, May 20 to Thursday, May 22 in Frankfurt, Germany. The show will feature 3,500 exhibitors and is expected to draw 9,000 visitors. The Daegu Convention and Visitors Bureau has a mouth-watering event planned for participants to enjoy.

Under the banner “Red Hot Daegu,” representatives from the Daegu Metropolitan City plan to ignite interest in Korea’s hottest city. From the heat of its summers to the warmth of its people, Daegu invites delegates to discover what fuels this dynamic city.

Daegu is sending seven individuals from the Daegu Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Daegu Metropolitan Government to represent the city at IMEX 2014. Myung-Hee Kwon, Director of Destination Branding Department at the Daegu Convention and Visitors Bureau, said the show is a great opportunity to promote Daegu’s identity as Korea’s hottest city.

“We are so excited to promote ‘Red Hot Daegu’ to buyers and colleagues from around the world,” she said. “I hope this event helps get our name out there as an emerging destination. We invite delegates to have fun while getting to know us.”

Participants will have the opportunity to experience a taste of Daegu by trying yangnyeom tondak, fried chicken tossed in a sweet and spicy red glaze. The dish exemplifies Daegu’s culinary tradition of bold ingredients and intense flavors.

“Red Hot” describes so much more than food in Daegu. In the summer, temperatures soar to 40°C or 104°F! The people must thrive in this heat, because the city never slows down. In fact, they have a reputation for their intensity. The personality of the locals is often described as hot-tempered and warm-hearted. This passion for life is sure to make an impression on visitors to Daegu.

Through bold solar power initiatives, Daegu has made sure none of its energy goes to waste. The city’s focus on renewable energy has earned it the distinction of Korea’s first Solar City. This focus has made Daegu a hot meeting ground for events like the World Energy Congress, one of the world’s most prestigious energy gatherings.

IMEX participants will also have the opportunity to learn about all the hot, must-see cultural heritage sites in and around the city at “Red Hot Daegu.” The party will take place at the event lounge of the Korean Pavilion. Guests can enjoy refreshments, play fun activities, take part in a raffle and take home some souvenirs!

The Daegu Convention and Visitors Bureau is sure to spice up IMEX 2014 with “Red Hot Daegu.” Food is a language that anyone can understand, and the event is a delicious conversation starter guaranteed to get people excited about Korea’s hottest destination.
